ISRAELI AND BURGUNDY CHOIRS IN CONCERT THIS FRIDAY
Spectators who flock to the Buxy church this Friday evening, May 16, are in for a rare, a very rare privilege: That of hearing 35 of the best choir singers from the Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir, who have come from Israel especially for three concerts in Burgundy! In the first part of the concert we will have the pleasure of again hearing the Vocal Ensemble of Buxy.
We met Hanna Tzur (conductor) and David Varon (director of the Israeli group), who professed their pleasure at being in our region. They were delighted to discover Burgundy through visits made this week to Beaune, Dijon, Cormatin, Brancion, and the beautiful site of Cluny!
Eighty percent of the 35 singers who are visiting us (out of 50 choir members), are semi-professional musicians! That says something about the level of these singers, who in the second part of this evening’s concert, will interpret Schubert’s Ave Maria, Negro Spirituals, and extracts from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, to name just a few of the compositions. In the first part, Rene Clere’s choir will present us with The Lamentations of Jeremiah (superb and always touching), among five planned pieces.
The Ramat-Gan Chamber Choir goes by the name of the city which witnessed its birth in 1993. We will become better acquainted with them in the article that will be devoted to their concert on Friday May 16.
Meet us at the Buxy church at 2030, or attend the churches in Chapaize or Gourdon for the other two concerts, performed on May 17 and 18.
